good leader, bad leader

Why are there so many bad leaders in the world, aside from the fact that we are fallen human beings? Actually, why are we bad at anything we do? No, not all of us can be brilliant mathematicians or stunning performers in whatever area, but we all can do what we do well.

I’m afraid the answer is simple. We are bad leaders because we choose to be. It’s no one’s fault but your own. If you are a bad leader – I don’t mean brilliant, just good – ask yourself if you are putting in the necessary effort to be a good one.

  1. I believe that there are many mediocre leaders in the world because they (and I) fall into it naturally. It takes significant effort and constant attention to be a good leader, and that’s after one attains a vision of what “good leadership” means for their particular role. Also, as one gets older it becomes more difficult to push ahead, to define and accomplish change. At least that is how it is with me, and I see a lot of the same around me. In the end I agree, it is a choice, but it is not an easy one.

  2. I agree, Matt. I had no concept of what it meant to be a good leader until I attended my first Global Leadership Summit at Willow Creek Church. All of a sudden I realized I had tons to learn and that I had learned none of it in college!
